Our Story Started as a Bond Between Friends
The seed for this Centre was planted in a primary school classroom.
As a child navigating my own trauma, my closest friend in primary school was a remarkable boy who had muscular dystrophy.
Our friendship was a beautiful, unspoken balance: I was his physical support, helping him with writing or opening his lunch, and he was my emotional rock, my biggest supporter. We looked out for each other. That experience of mutual support, of seeing ability and heart before disability, is the foundation of this Centre.
Years later, that lesson took on a new meaning as I watched a dear friend care for her incredible teenage son with a rare genetic disorder. I saw her strength, her resilience, and the immense need for a place where parents and carers can sit down with a cup of tea and talk to someone who just gets it, without having to explain a thing.
The Play Move Improve Centre is based off of a collection of these stories. It is a promise to my friends, and to this community, to build that space that I wished for as a child. It's a safe haven for families, a village for carers. It's a place where everyone is welcome and nurtured.
