Our Play Move Improve Studio Story

The foundation of the Play Move Improve Studio was actually laid years ago in a primary school classroom. As a child navigating my own world, my closest friend was a remarkable boy who had muscular dystrophy. Our friendship was a beautiful, unspoken balance. I was his physical support, helping him with his writing or opening his lunch, and he was my emotional rock.

He taught me to see the heart and the person before the disability. That experience of mutual support and genuine belonging is the very reason this studio exists today.

A Place for the Village

Years later, that lesson took on a new meaning as I watched a dear friend care for her incredible son who has a rare genetic disorder. I saw her strength and her resilience, but I also saw the immense need for a place where parents and carers can just be.

I wished for a space where you could sit down with a cup of tea and talk to someone who just gets it, without having to explain a thing. I promised myself I would build that space.

Why Rhythm and Movement?

I often share that music saved me during my own childhood. I discovered that rhythm isn't just about dance or performance. It is a powerful tool that soothes the vagus nerve and helps our nervous system find safety.

When we use rhythm and movement in the studio, we aren't just working on coordination or physical strength. We are building joy. We are helping children find their own sense of calm and capability through the same tools that helped me find mine.

Our Promise to You

The Play Move Improve Studio is a brand new space in Chirnside Park, and we are only just getting started. Our vision is to grow into a true community hub where:

  • All ages and abilities feel like they belong the moment they kick off their shoes.

  • Parents find their tribe through our upcoming connection book clubs and play mornings.

  • Development is playful, evidence based, and deeply respectful of every child's unique journey.

We aren't here to diagnose or "fix" your child. We are here to move with them, play with them, and support your whole family as part of our village.
